Out of the box Codex asks a lot of questions or, worse, trusts too much. The right combination of approval policy, sandbox mode and profile makes it comfortable to use all day: strict when you are exploring an unfamiliar repo, fast when you are iterating on your own code, fully automatic only inside CI. This pack gives you ready-to-merge ~/.codex/config.toml presets - conservative, balanced, CI/full-auto, a profile set, MCP server examples, a shell-environment policy that keeps secrets out of commands, and a desktop-notify hook - all validated as TOML.

Sixteen custom prompt files (review, plan, explain, write tests, fix failing tests, commit message, PR description, refactor, docs, security review, debug, migration, performance, changelog, onboarding and spec-to-tasks) drop into ~/.codex/prompts/ and run as slash commands with arguments. Each is written as a precise brief with an output contract rather than a vague request.

A cheat sheet summarizes CLI flags, slash commands and the approval/sandbox matrix, and the recipes show how to use codex exec in scripts and CI. Codex changes quickly: every file marks the details to verify against the current official docs and codex --help before relying on them.
