Home / Automation / n8n Custom Nodes

Writing your own n8n node is the way to wrap an internal API or a service n8n does not support yet. This kit gives you two small, working starting points built on the official @n8n/node-cli: a declarative node, where a few lines of routing configuration turn a UI field into a REST request, and a programmatic node, where an execute() method builds the request in code and handles errors per item.
Both examples call the public Open Library API, so you can run them with no credentials and watch real data flow. Each project includes the manifest with build, dev, lint and release scripts, TypeScript and ESLint configuration, light and dark icons, the codex metadata file n8n uses for search, and a README template for publishing.
The pack browser shows every file with a line-numbered code view, so you can read the declarative and programmatic versions side by side and copy exactly what you need. A start-here guide walks through install, dev, build and renaming the package.
